It’s new us but we are enjoying it.

Comment on 5 things to check before accepting a teaching job in China by John Correia https://goldstarteachers.com/5-things-to-check-before-accepting-a-teaching-job-in-china/#comment-322704 Mon, 31 May 2021 02:38:24 +0000 https://goldstarteachers.com/?p=2408#comment-322704 Hello. I am currently working at the age of 64 in Anhui province. The mystery is yearly: if I will be allowed a new visa. In Anhui I met another teacher hired when she was 63 going on 64. China retires its teachers at 60. As a Canadian, we now have laws against ‘age discrimination.’ In China they have the right to set limits and laws. We older ‘experienced teachers’ are often better at managing teaching in China, yet the younger teachers are better dealing with the younger students. Chinese attitudes are based on ‘health concerns’ for those 60 or older: they don’t want to deal with illness or death of foreign nationals. I will then remind the readers that my ex-wife died when she was 65 after retiring from teaching EFL. This year I turn 65. It is my view to cherish working with the ‘senior foreign teachers.’ My employer is West Anhui University. My contract ends in January 2022. Seeing my brother-in-law pass away at 59 is a reminder ‘life is unpredictable.’ If you are a senior, try to find an employer who values what we have to offer. Some provinces are desperate to find suitable foreign teaching applicants.

Comment on Returning to China – My Visa Process by Stevonna https://goldstarteachers.com/returning-to-china-my-visa-process/#comment-319926 Mon, 28 Dec 2020 16:39:18 +0000 https://goldstarteachers.com/?p=34580#comment-319926 Hi Cynthia, sorry for the late reply. Yes, it is possible as it’s a great demand for teachers in China. You’ll need a teaching degree or certificate such as TEFL, CELTA or something similar. Find a job that is hiring and see what they are requesting. Gold Star will definitely be helpful in assisting you. I recommend going to China on a working visa which is a Z visa.

Is it possible for someone who graduated from China in 2017 to apply afresh and go to China to teach? If so which is the best way to do it? Which visa type? I have a degree in Medicine and Surgery.

Comment on My 14 Day Quarantine in China – The Details by Stevonna Franks https://goldstarteachers.com/my-14-day-quarantine-in-china-the-details/#comment-319132 Wed, 04 Nov 2020 00:27:17 +0000 https://goldstarteachers.com/?p=34649#comment-319132 Hi Lee,

Yes, you must complete your quarantine in the first country that you arrive in within China and there is no choice in the hotel that is assigned to you. If you don’t have WeChat then don’t worry. Make sure that you have a credit card on hand for the charges.

If your airplane ticket already includes your final destination then you can call the airlines to reschedule your flight to Shanghai once you are about to finish your quarantine. Just an fyi, you may have to do another 7 to 14 days of quarantine since you are travelling from another province and not flying directly to Shanghai. You can freely go out but you may not be allowed to begin work until you take another test for COVID and have completed the 7 or 14 day quarantine period. Check with your workplace to find out more information.

Let me know if you have more questions. It sounds like a lot to do but it’s very well organized so don’t worry.
